Tournaments

How Do Tournaments Differ From Standard Real Money Play?

There are several key differences between tournament play and standard real money play. These are:

  • Players must sign up and pay a buy-in fee and house fee prior to playing
  • All participants start with the same number of chips
  • The blinds / antes and table limits increase periodically
  • Prizes are awarded according to a player's ranking against other players

Selecting a Tournament

Pick the Tournament you wish to play.

Click on either the Single-Table or Multi-Table Tournaments tab and a list of tournaments will be displayed.

Name

This is the name used to identify the tournament.

Game

This is the type of poker to be played in the tournament. For example, Texas Hold'em, 7 Card Stud, Omaha High, Omaha High / Low.

Players

The second number is the maximum number of players allowed at the table.

Before a tournament has started, the first number indicates the number of players that have registered for that specific tournament. During tournament play it shows how many players are currently active.

At the end of the tournament, this number will be zero.

Fee

To enter a tournament a player must first pay both the Entry Fee and the House Fee.

The two parts to the fee (e.g. £20 + £2) denotes how much goes into the prize pool (£20 per entry), and the house fee for hosting the tournament (£2).

Status

Indicates the stage of the tournament. For example, Reg Starts in xx min, Waiting for Reg, Registering, Waiting to Open, In Progress, Completed, Cancelled.

Starting Chips

Amount of money credited to the tournament account of all players at the beginning of play.

Levels

Number of different minimum and maximum wagering thresholds during the life of a tournament. The wagering thresholds increase with every successive level.

Hands Per Level

Maximum number of hands played at each level.

Prize pool Total amount available to be won by tournament participants including a breakdown by ranking.

How to Register

To register for a tournament, click on the Register Now button within the Table Information window.

Alternatively, you may double-click on the Tournament Name within the Tournament List.

After you have clicked on the Register Now button, you will be asked you to confirm your request.

You can view a schedule of our Main Tournaments, or login to the poker room to enter any one of hundreds we offer.

Entry Status

If you are registered in a tournament a check mark will appear to the left hand side of the tournament name.

You may register for a maximum of two different concurrent tournaments.

However, while playing in either a single or multi-table tournament you can also simultaneously play at any of our cash tables.

Unregistering

You may unregister for a tournament by clicking on the Unregister button in the bottom right of the Table Information Window.

You may not unregister from a tournament once the tournament has started.

Playing

Shortly after the required number of players have registered for a tournament, a dialogue box will appear informing you that the tournament is starting. Click on the Take Me To The Tournament button to be seated at the Game table.

Players' seats at the Game table are selected randomly, they cannot choose their own. All players begin with the same amount of money.

Tournament money is not related to real money in your William Hill account.

Players continue to play until they do not have sufficient funds to pay the low bet amount in the next hand. After a pre-set number of hands have been played, the bet limit will be increased to the next level.

The tournament will continue until one player remains, who will win first prize.

All other prizes will be awarded according to the player's finishing position in the tournament. If two players are eliminated at the same time the finishing position is determined by the player's starting balance during the last hand that they participate in.

What Happens If I Get Disconnected?

If this happens the system will automatically "post and fold" for you. This means that your blinds will be automatically posted when it is your turn to do so, and your hand will be automatically folded when it is your turn to play.

Rankings

Following the completion of a tournament, players can see the ranking of tournament players by clicking on the tournament line in the Select a Table window.

Then click on the Rankings tab in the Table Information window.

During a tournament, players can see their tournament balance and the tournament balance of other participants in the window located directly in front of their respective seat.

Prize Structure

You may view the Prize Structure of a tournament by clicking on the Prize Structure button in the Table Information Window.
